THE AZURE SKY IN OZ, by William Leavengood, is a powerful, funny, but unflinching drama about two women whose lives are profoundly changed by their immersion in the world of the other-abled. Mary, a nurturing Special Ed teacher, defies her superiors and stars her ESE students in a production of THE WIZARD OF OZ with astonishing results. Michelle, an emerging visual artist, tries to raise and care for her profoundly autistic son while fighting against the system as well her own fear of losing her career in the process. Based on the experiences of two real-life Floridians, THE AZURE SKY IN OZ is directed by Padraic Lillis and stars Carrie Drazek in a one woman, tour-de-force, playing both of these intriguing and resilient characters in the play’s World premiere. The play is sponsored by the law firm of Gibbs & Parnell, P.A. and will benefit The Philanthropic Women of St. Joseph’s.
